(Winged Foot Golf Club, NY) The United States Golf Association has teamed up with Lennd to deliver a virtual media hub for the 2020 U.S. Open Championship in order to give their approved media partners and outlets one place to efficiently cover the week's events remotely.
When asked what they are looking to accomplish by implementing Lennd's Virtual Media Center platform - Assistant Director, Championship Communications Julia Pine, mentioned:
We're all experiencing unique times and challenges that are altering the needs for large-scale events across the globe. As we truly built from the ground up what the media experience would be like for the 2020 U.S. Open Championship, it was clear that we would not be able to accommodate nearly the number of onsite media that we are used to. But it was paramount to us to be able to provide as seamless an experience as possible to media covering the championship virtually, and still provide as many of the tools they are used to receiving onsite. That's where Lennd came in. The virtual platform they are able to customize and provide allowed us to do so many of the things on our wish list, and create a one-stop shop for credentialed media to cover the championship from afar.
"It’s an absolute honor when an organization like the USGA entrusts Lennd to support such a critical component of one of the most prestigious events in the world. It's also especially exciting in such a tough time to have partners that see the potential of this technology to expand their reach, reduce their costs and create a better experience for key constituents like media " said, Lennd Co-Founder & CEO, Chris Carver
When asked why they decide to work with Lennd, Pine, said:
We were introduced to the Lennd platform through our friends at the PGA of America. We saw the experience they provided during the PGA Championship, and knew our objectives were similar.
"One of the positive bi-products of this pandemic is how many organizations are collaborating and sharing best practices even more than usual. It was pretty awesome to see how open the PGA of America was to what they were doing and to now see the USGA team pay it forward to other organizations navigating this time, is really truly what this is all about" said Carver.
When asked how they will determine success with Lennd's Virtual Media Center, Pine said:
Our main objective with the virtual media hub is making sure that media across the globe are able to do their jobs and provide thorough coverage of our championship. We want that virtual experience to be seamless; easy to navigate and enjoyable to use.
When asked how this can impact other sporting events in the future, Pine said:
Even pre-COVID, the media landscape was changing. More and more often we're seeing the need for members of the media to cover events from afar, not just at the U.S. Open but all the way down through our amateur events. A platform like Lennd is going to be incredibly useful moving forward as industries across the world, including sport, continues to put more tools in place to connect offsite media to what's going on onsite at a sporting event.
"Being on the front-lines of this, it's really incredible to think about all of the different applications of the technology for the sports and events in general. Not only will we continue to make this even more powerful for media, I also see a very clear path for our partners to leverage the platform to create new revenue streams and have deeper engagement with key constituents like Sponsors, VIP's, Season Ticket Holders, Staff, Athletes, Talent, etc." said, Carver

UNITED STATES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The United States Open Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Open, is the annual open national championship of golf in the United States. It is the third of the four major championships in golf, and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Since 1898 the competition has been 72 holes of stroke play (4 rounds on an 18-hole course), with the winner being the player with the lowest total number of strokes. It is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June, scheduled so that, if there are no weather delays, the final round is played on the third Sunday. The U.S. Open is staged at a variety of courses, set up in such a way that scoring is very difficult, with a premium placed on accurate driving. As of 2019 the U.S. Open awards a $12.5 million purse, the largest of all 4 major championships and tied for largest of all PGA Tour events (The Players Championship also with $12.5 million) - www.usopen.com
